Abstract
DAMA (Drain Asphalt Modified Additive), a kind of
PMA(Polymer Modified Additive), was investigated for its capability by a
laboratory testing and in order to obtain a data on pavement structural design.
AP-5, with the penetration grading of AC 60-70, was chosen as the asphalt
binder.
The weight of DAMA varied 0%, 0.5%, and 1% of HMA(hot mixture
asphalt). HMA was then subject to Marshall test (KS F 2337), compaction test,
indirect tensile strength test (KS F 2376), wheel tracking test (KS F 2334), and
modulus of resilient test (KS F 2336) using 5 kinds of aggregate grade (dense
graded 19mm, drain graded 13mm, drain graded 19mm, superpave graded 19mm,
SMA(Stone Mastic Asphalt) graded 19mm). The test result revealed that the five
type of the aggregate graded asphalt mixture with 1% DAMA exhibited a greater
relative surface layer coefficient(ai) than 0.157, which was the standard
surface layer coefficient(ai) value as set by MOCT(Ministry of Construction and
Transportation). Thus, this finding should contribute to the structural design
of the pavement.
